Empire Mine SHP is one of nineteen state parks participating in California State Parks' new Aventure Pass program. This pilot program allows fourth graders and their families to get into the participating parks for free!
Empire Mine is also hosting family-focused themed events to encourage Adventure Pass families to learn something new together, through fun hands-on activities. Visitors may bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at these events (food is not normally allowed inside the historic area).
Adventure Pass Family Day events are held on the following days from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
- June 3rd theme: Outside Science! What better place to learn about outdoor science like your local state park? See the park through a different lens with nature tours, hands-on science activities, and learn about the different ways our environmental scientists monitor the Park.
- September 6th theme: Innovation and Consequences at Empire Mine! Nevada County has a rich history in hard rock mining, with technological innovations and environmental consequences. Bring your thought-provoking questions as we dive deep into the long-term effects of hard rock mining.
Please note, parents/legal guardians are required to obtain the Adventure Pass prior to coming into the park on event days. Visit California State Parks - Memberships (reservecalifornia.com) to apply for your free pass online. More information about the Adventure Pass, including locations to get your pass in-person, can be found at Adventure Pass (ca.gov).
