Lighthouse Field SB
Narrated by Russ Christoff

I couldn’t pass through the resort town of Santa Cruz without visiting Lighthouse Field State Beach.

Managed by the City of Santa Cruz, this park at Lighthouse Point is one of the best areas for surfing on the central coast.

Experienced surfers and interested spectators are drawn to this point at Steamers Lane, where large breakers roll toward the shore.

This sport takes amazing skill and requires plenty of dexterity, practice and patience.

A path along the cliffs leads observers to an excellent vantage point from a railing to view all the action below, including a seal rookery to the north.

An immaculate lawn area provides space picnics or a place to relax.

One of only three museums in the United States specializing in surfing memorabilia is located in the Lighthouse building.

Inside this unique historical landmark, visitors will find displays of photographs depicting the sports past and present, as well as the evolution of beach wear and hair styles spanning the Twentieth Century.

Anyone with a special place in their heart for surfing will enjoy a stop at Lighthouse Field.

If you’re an observer, you’ll get a terrific front row seat. But if you’re a surfer, Steamer Lane delivers some great waves.
