California State Parks Seeks Public Comment On California Youth Soccer Recreation and Development Program

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – California State Park’s Office of Grants and Local Services is preparing guidelines to award up to $16 million in competitive grants through the California Youth Soccer Recreation and Development Program. Grants will fund new youth soccer, baseball, softball, and basketball recreation opportunities in heavily populated, low-income urban areas with a high youth crime and unemployment rate.

The program’s draft application guide will be available for public comment from Nov. 2, 2015 through Dec. 18, 2015 at Six public hearings will be held throughout California during the public comment period. Potential applicants and interested parties are encouraged to attend a public meeting where comments will be taken on the draft application guide.

The final application guide will contain application and grant guidelines that eligible applicants will use to apply for the program. The guide is expected to be released in spring 2016. Applications will be due in fall 2016. Local agencies, recreation districts, school districts and community-based organizations are eligible to apply.

The purpose of the public meetings is to accept public comment on the draft grant guidelines for the implementation of the California Youth Soccer Recreation and Development Program as set forth in §5004.5 of the Public Resources Code and the California Clean Water, Clean Air, Safe Neighborhood Parks, and Coastal Protection Act of 2002 as set forth in §5096.600 through §5096.683 of the Public Resources Code.
