Interested in hearing the big boom of a real cannon? Seeing docents dressed in pioneer attire while tending to daily camp life? Learning about how trappers once lived before the Gold Rush in a recreated campsite? Get ready as the Sutter's Fort Mobile Living History Unit is going on the road and setting up camp in Red Bluff and Colusa in early October! Staffed by a dozen volunteers of Sutter's Fort State Historic Park dressed in period attire, local schools and community members can visit these special campsites that replicate the camps of trapping brigades that John Sutter once sent into the wilderness of the upper Sacramento Valley to make treaties with the Native Americans, and harvest the rich fur and pelt populations of the Sacramento River and its tributaries. Local individuals, families and home schooled students are invited to attend a two-hour afternoon session at 12:30 p.m. each day (except Fridays) that is open to the public. For more information about the Sutter's Fort Mobile Living History program, please call 916-323-8112 or visit www.suttersfort.org.
