Clean-Up at Glass Beach
Park: MacKerricher SP
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
California State Parks invites you to participate in a clean-up at Glass Beach on April 27, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Latex gloves and trash bags will be provided. This is a great way to help the environment and engage in an activity to go along with Earth Day 2013. By picking up trash you help to prevent harbor seals and other animals from ingesting plastic and other items that could hurt the animals. You help keep litter from going into the ocean by picking it up.
Glass Beach is now part of MacKerricher State Park on the northern California Coast. From 1906 to 1967, everything from cars to batteries to bottles, cans and appliances were unceremoniously pushed over the cliffs into the ocean. Nature responded to this abuse with a nice surprise in the form of smooth, colored sea glass treasure on the beach. Above the beach are bluffs and coastal grasslands.
