1ST ANNUAL BIRDING FESTIVAL AT THE SALTON SEA STATE RECREATION AREA ON THE NORTH SHORE OF THE GREAT SALTON SEA

Sponsored by the Sea and Desert Interpretive Association and California State Parks

All profits stay in the park and are used by our  non-profit association to promote educational and interpretive activities to conserve the unique natural and historical values of the Salton Sea.

The Salton Sea is one of the largest  remaining wetlands in all of California and an important stop for millions of birds along the Pacific Flyway. Over 400 species of birds have been identified here throughout the year.

Registration fees are $50 dollars per person or $100 per family for the full package, and includes the Friday night reception, kids activities, Saturday birding walks and field trips, an evening program, and a special birdwatching kayak tour on Sunday.

Full festival fees also include two nights of tent camping and a Salton Sea tee shirt for each adult. Kids tees are extra.

Day use to the festival is $10  for  adults and $25 for families

All activities meet at the Visitor Center. 
Field trip transportation is by carpool.

Friday, January 18th
4 pm      Check in  and  Registration at the   Visitor  Center
6 pm      Welcome Refreshments and Keynote speaker

Saturday, January 19th
Coffee and Muffins at the VC
8 am      Deck chair Birding
9 am      Birding Walk
              Kids Chalk Art Contest
              Junior Ranger Program (kids  aged 7-12)  
              Drawing Birds Seminar
noon      Lunch on your own
1 pm      Fieldtrips & seminars
                  1. Basic Birding 
                  2. Wild Bird Center Tour
                  3. Wetlands & Salton Sea History Museum Tour
                  4. Points South to Salt Creek and the  Alamo River
6pm    Evening  Campfire Program          

Sunday, January 20th
10 am     Kayak birding tour*
               Enjoy the view from the water.
               Children  under 12 must be partnered with an adult.
               *This is an easy 2 hour tour

OPTIONAL FIELD TRIP  $30.00
9:30 - 5:00   Trip to Sonny Bono Wildlife Refuge with leader Kurt Leuschner  from College of the Desert
