Kids' Fishing and Fun Day at San Luis Reservoir

Saturday, May 19th, 2012 -- 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

Los Banos:  Fun will be the "catch of the day" on Saturday, May 19th at San Luis Reservoir State Recreation Area.  The 23rd Annual Kids' Fishing and Fun Day, hosted by the Department of Water Resources and California State Parks staff and volunteers, will be held at San Luis Creek on the O’Neill Forebay.  Bring the family and your fishing poles and enjoy a day of fishing and crafts, etc. on the 'lake'.
Children ages 3 to 15 may sign in from 10:00 a.m. on.  Free bait is provided.  Also, each participant will receive free strawberries and whip cream and be able to do free crafts.  There will be a fun free ‘fishing simulator’ to try as well. There will also be free demonstrations of fly fishing and fly 'tying'.  Bring a picnic lunch or buy lunch from Los Banos' 'Hot Dog Heaven'. There will be free pontoon boat rides (weather permitting-ages 6 and above-first come first serve the day of the event).The only cost is the $10 state park Day Use Fee per car.

This special recreation program is sponsored by California's Department of Water Resources, State Parks, and donations.  It marks the occasion of the annual May is "Water Awareness Month".  To reach the San Luis Creek area, take the San Luis Creek turn-off from Hwy. 152 at the O'Neill Forebay, and follow the signs.  (It is on the north side of Hwy. 152, 7 miles west of Hwy. 5.)
