Where: Visitor Center outdoor amphitheater
When: 7:00 a.m. (2.5 hours)
Why are these people looking up into the sky? Join State Park volunteer Naturalist Terry Hunefeld to discover the fascinating story of migrating Swainson's Hawks. We'll meet at the Visitor Center outdoor amphitheater for a 40-minute program, then caravan to the Hawkwatch site, observe hawk watchers on duty, and (we hope) see migrating raptors. We'll also meet "HawkGuy" Hal Cohen, the man who discovered the hawk migration phenomenon in 2003 and helped to put the Borrego Hawkwatch in motion. Bring binoculars, water and hats. You may also appreciate a portable chair. Limited to 12 participants who must have pre-registered at the Visitor Center.
