Secondary succession due to fire is a study of what changes have occurred after fire has been in our park. Sometimes new forgotten species emerge, animals change their patterns, things look different. Follow Volunteer Interpretive Naturalist John Lynch along trails to study this amazing fire-scape opportunity, discuss fire as land use management by Native peoples, and find early-summer wildflowers, too. The route will include approximately 250 foot elevation gain over about 5 miles of varied trails. This route begins and ends at Parktrail Drive Trail Head.
Wear hiking shoes, layers appropriate for weather, bring water and snack. Trekking poles recommended. Some trails are rocky and uneven. HEAVY RAIN CANCELS.

This hike is fee-free. No advance reservations needed. There are restrooms and water in the parking area. Dogs are not allowed.
Directions: turn south on Summerfield Road, turn left onto Parktrail Drive, parking is along the street. Meet John just beyond the STOP sign.
