170 years ago, on its maiden voyage, the Carrier Pigeon ran aground off what was then called Whale Point. Fortunately, all the crew survived and made it to shore safely. But, the ill-fated ship left its mark on the San Mateo Coast and Whale Point was known from then on as Pigeon Point.

Nautical activities will be available for all ages! Meet local Sea Scouts and learn how to communicate with signal flags, throw a heaving line, and tie knot! Enjoy a guided tour of the grounds and learn about the history of the point and the shipwrecks that led to the construction of the lighthouse.
