SACRAMENTO, Calif.—California State Parks and the California Indian Heritage Center Foundation are proud to honor and celebrate California’s Native Elders with the 41st Annual “Gathering of Honored Elders”. With complimentary admission to the event and museum, the community is invited to celebrate this special day and be surrounded by these keepers of the traditions who travel from all over California. The event is taking place Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the State Indian Museum, 2618 K Street in Sacramento.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) urges recreational boaters and water enthusiasts to take the necessary precautions this summer, starting with life jacket wear and boating education, to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. In the last five-year tracking period, three out of four California boaters involved in fatal accidents were not wearing a life jacket and very few had taken a boating safety course.

The Commission meeting will be held at 1 p.m. in the Lucie Stern Community Center Ballroom, located at 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.

DWR and California State Parks Offer Free Day Use and Boat Launching at Lake Oroville SRA on Select Days This Summer

SACRAMENTO – The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and California State Parks today announced free day use and boat launching at Lake Oroville State Recreation Area on select days each month this summer. Fees for these activities will be waived to all visitors on the following days: May 17-18, June 7-8, July 5-6, August 2-3 and September 6-7.


California State Parks Announces $10M for Local Park Projects

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California State Parks today announced the selection of 39 local park projects that will receive grants totaling $10 million from the California Outdoor Environmental Education Facilities Grant Program. This one-time competitive program, funded by the 2002 Resources Bond Act (Proposition 40), provides assistance to local agencies and community-based organizations for the development of outdoor environmental education facilities.

Kings Beach State Recreation Area General Plan Released for Public Comment

NORTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – California State Parks and the California Tahoe Conservancy (Conservancy) seek public input on the future of Kings Beach State Recreation Area (Kings Beach SRA). Over the next 20 years, the public entities would like to add new facilities such as an outdoor event stage, lakeside promenade and small administration building. There is also a proposal to relocate the pier, playground, picnic areas and basketball court, and modify the restrooms and parking areas. The current boat ramp would be replaced with a smaller, non-motorized lake access point. The deadline to submit feedback on the proposed project is June 29, 2018.

Hearst Castle Visitor Center to Install Solar Canopy in Parking Lot

SAN SIMEON, Calif. — California State Parks announced today a project to install a 85,000 square foot photo voltaic canopy (solar panel array) over the visitor center’s parking lot below the Hearst San Simeon State Historical Monument. This project, which will begin on Tuesday, April 24, represents the department’s commitment to protect the environment and fight climate change.
