California Law Enforcement Steps Up Efforts to Reduce Buzzed Boating

More than 30 marine law enforcement entities across California will be out in force June 30 - July 2, looking for drunken/impaired recreational boaters. This three-day increased enforcement, known as Operation Dry Water, is a boating under the influence awareness and enforcement campaign carried out throughout the United States around Fourth of July, a holiday unfortunately known for drinking and boating, and deadly accidents.

Managing Boat Sewage the Environmental Way: There is an App for that!

California’s recreational boaters in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta and Southern California now have a new digital tool to aid in the proper disposal of boat sewage. The “Pumpout Nav” app is designed to help boaters locate the closest sewage pumpout station for their vessels. Using the mobile device’s location, the app displays the pumpout stations closest to the boater, their operational status, as well as the cost, hours and location within the marina. The new app is free and available for download from both the Android Play and iOS Apple stores.

This summer season begins with some of the highest water levels and coldest water not seen or felt in many years. Swift and cold water can create treacherous conditions for everyone, including experienced swimmers.

State Offers Educational Opportunities for the Public and Boating Facility Operators to Help Keep California’s Waterways Clean

California’s Boating Clean and Green Program and its partners are offering free volunteer opportunities, workshops and seminars on ways to help keep California’s waterways clean. Motivated individuals with a willingness to learn and an ability to convey important environmental messages are encouraged to participate.
