ATTENTION: Due to fire damage, the Sycamore Canyon campground and the La Jolla Group Camp are closed through May 20; they are tentatively scheduled to open on May 21st. Note that all vegetation in and around the La Jolla Group Camp is burned; group camp is scarred. Regarding Sycamore Canyon, the parameters of the campground and back country are burned. Please check the website for the latest information.
Point Mugu State Park, located in the Santa Monica Mountains, features five miles of ocean shoreline, with rocky bluffs, sandy beaches, sand dunes, rugged hills and uplands, two major river canyons and wide grassy valleys dotted with sycamores, oaks and a few native walnuts. There are more than 70 miles of hiking trails. The beach also features swimming, body surfing and surf fishing. The park includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area.

The beach is 15 miles south of Oxnard on Highway One.

Please Note:
The park recently switched from coin-operated showers to token-operated showers. The token machines accept ONLY dollar bills. Change for larger bills is not available at this time.
Update on Fire Closures
Point Mugu State Park has fire damage and will be closed for approximately two weeks until 5/19/2013 or until furthur notice. The campgrounds and backcountry are extremely dangerous with falling trees, unstable rocks and debris. Areas closed to the public are: Sycamore Canyon campground La Jolla Canyon group and hike-in campgrounds Point Mugu backcountry trails including Sycamore Canyon Fire Road at Rancho Sierra Vista, La Jolla Canyon and Chumash Trailhead parking areas and trails Areas open to the public are: Mugu Beach day use areas are open for beach going and picnicking. Sycamore Cove Beach day use areas are open for beach going and picnicking Leo Carrillo State Park campground, day use areas and trails are open and will continue to be open for camping, beach going and hiking.

Dogs in Parks
Dogs on a leash are allowed in the Park's day use areas, campgrounds and beaches. Dogs are not allowed on the backcountry trails or dirt roads.
