El Capitán State Beach is currently open and is honoring reservations and walk-up registration for camping and day use.
Any changes in operations due to the Thomas Fire will be updated on this website.
El Capitán State Beach is not a recognized evacuation shelter location for victims of the Thomas Fire and does not have the necessary resources to assist with the needs and necessities of evacuees. The nearest shelter location in Santa Barbara County for fire evacuees is located at:

El Capitán State Beach offers visitors a sandy beach, rocky tidepools, and stands of sycamore and oaks along El Capitán Creek. It’s a perfect setting for swimming, fishing, surfing, picnicking and camping. A stairway provides access from the bluffs to the beach area.
Beach wheelchairs are available for use by the public with no cost. With this specially designed chair, wheelchair users may access the beach at several locations. Contact a ranger or lifeguard for additional information.

The beach is located off Highway 101 seventeen miles west of Santa Barbara.

RV rental policy
