El Capitán State Beach
Due to the potential for flooding from incoming storms, El Capitan, Gaviota and Refugio state beaches will be closed as a visitor safety precaution until from 12 p.m., Thursday, February 16 until weather permits and the parks have been made safe, Sunday February 19 at the earliest. The U. S. Weather Service is predicting rainfall totals this weekend to exceed amounts that caused extensive flooding earlier this year.
El Capitán State Beach no longer has an RV dump station. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
El Capitán State Beach offers visitors a sandy beach, rocky tidepools, and stands of sycamore and oaks along El Capitán Creek. It’s a perfect setting for swimming, fishing, surfing, picnicking and camping. A stairway provides access from the bluffs to the beach area.
Beach wheelchairs are available for use by the public with no cost. With this specially designed chair, wheelchair users may access the beach at several locations. Contact a ranger or lifeguard for additional information.
Location - Directions
The beach is located off Highway 101 seventeen miles west of Santa Barbara.
