Volunteer Opportunities

Become a Volunteer!

Volunteer opportunities at the Tule Elk State Natural Reserve include being a docent, assisting with on-site school tours, assisting with tours for the public, helping with special events, and other activities.

A "docent" is a volunteer that has attended training for their position. No previous experience or prior knowledge of the cultural or natural resources of the Tule Elk State Natural Reserve is required. Learn about the biology and history of the tule elk at docent trainings held every year. Training includes techniques for being a docent, an introduction to California State Parks and the Volunteers In Parks Program, and more. Enjoy meeting new friends while volunteering at the Tule Elk State Natural Reserve.

Docents may range in age from college student to senior citizen, must be interested in learning, and have a positive, friendly attitude. Applicants must complete a volunteer application, preliminary interview, consent to a background check, complete the volunteer or docent training program, and have reliable transportation to and from the park.
