School and Group Tours

Individuals and Small Groups

Small groups of 15 or fewer are welcome to visit Sutter’s Fort SHP at General Admission rates without a reservation. General Admission is available 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, daily. General Admission is payable at the Fort Kiosk.

General Admission tours are self-guided. State Parks Staff and Volunteers are available to answer questions and discuss the history of the Fort. There are no formal guided tours for General Admission visitors scheduled at this time.


School Groups

School groups are welcome to visit Sutter’s Fort SHP free of charge with an advance reservation. Reservations are available every 15 minutes, from 10:00 am to 2:45 pm, Monday through Friday. To place a reservation, please call ReserveCalifornia at (866) 240-4655. For additional questions email Angela Howell at (916) 445-3755 or Angela.Howell@parks.ca.gov.

School groups are limited to a maximum of 80 people per group, youth and adults inclusive. Groups with more than 80 people may book multiple reservations and stagger their visit. Youths are expected to be under direct adult supervision throughout their visit, with a minimum of 1 adult required for every 10 youths.

School group tours are self-guided. State Parks Staff and Volunteers are available to answer questions and discuss the history of the Fort, but not to provide formal tours. School Groups are invited to download and print this Timeline Activity for use while visiting the Fort.

School groups interested in additional guided and educational experiences are encouraged to reserve one of our several educational programs.
