$100,000 GRANT FOR BOATING LAUNCHING AND FACILITY IMPROVEMENT APPROVED

SACRAMENTO—The California Boating and Waterways Commission today approved a $100,000 grant for improvements to the Brite Valley Aquatic Recreation Area Boat Launching Facility.

The project includes demolition of the existing eroded boat ramp that will be replaced by a new, single lane, V-groove boat launching ramp with a vertical curve and paved road at the top of the ramp.  The  facility is located on Brite Valley Lake in Kern County and maintained and operated by the Tehachapi Valley Recreation and Parks District.

Grant and loan applications are submitted to the California Department of Boating and Waterways and funding for approved projects is derived from the taxes paid by boaters on the purchase of vessel gasoline and the repayment of principal and interest on department-made loans.

The department provides grants to a county, city, district or other public agency for the construction of small craft boating launching facilities and loans to local agencies for the construction of small craft harbors.  These grants and loans require the consent of the seven-member Boating and Waterways Commission.

SACRAMENTO -- The California Boating and Waterways Commission will meet December 12 in San Diego to consider a $100,000 boat launching and facility improvement grant.

The meeting is open to the public and will convene at 8:30 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel & Marina, 333 West Harbor Drive, in San Diego. The proposed grant recipient is:

$782,000 IN GRANTS FOR BOATING LAUNCHING AND FACILITY IMPROVEMENTS APPROVED

SACRAMENTO--The California Boating and Waterways Commission has approved $782,000 in boating launching and facility improvement grants.

The grants awarded by the Commission Oct. 24 will go toward the construction of three northern California boat launching facilities. The grant recipients are:

Miller Park Boat Launching Facility, Tomales Bay - Marin County
The Commission approved a $403,000 grant to the Marin County Department of Parks and Open Space for improvements to the Miller Park Boat Launching Facility. The project includes construction of a new restroom, fish cleaning station and a retaining wall adjacent to the restroom. This facility serves boats bound for Tomales Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

Black Point Boat Launching Facility, Petaluma River - Marin County
The Commission approved a $279,000 grant to the Marin County Department of Parks and Open Space for improvements to the Black Point Boat Launching Facility. The project includes construction of the project's secondary components: a restroom, fish cleaning station and a vehicle turn-around. The proximity to both fresh and salt water, make this recreation facility a favorite among boaters and anglers in the north bay area.

El Dorado Beach Boat Launching Facility, Lake Tahoe -- City of South Lake Tahoe
The Commission approved a $100,000 grant to the City of South Lake Tahoe for improvements to the El Dorado Beach Boat Launching Facility. The project includes reconstruction of the existing bathroom, placement of safety lightning and associated pedestrian paths from the existing parking lot to the proposed restroom. The facility is adjacent to El Dorado Beach, a lake access recreation area that presents the first look at Lake Tahoe for people traveling eastbound on Highway 50.

BOATING AND WATERWAYS COMMISSION TO CONSIDER $782,000 FOR BOATING LAUNCHING AND FACILITY IMPROVEMENT GRANTS OCTOBER 24

SACRAMENTO--The California Boating and Waterways Commission will meet October 24 in Walnut Creek to consider $782,000 in boat launching and facility improvement grants.

The meeting is open to the public and will convene at 8:30 a.m. at the Marriott Hotel, 2355 North Main Street, in Walnut Creek.  Other topics of discussion will include the Department of Boating and Waterway’s Boating Clean and Green program. The proposed grant recipients are:

Miller Park Boat Launching Facility, Tomales Bay – Marin County
The Commission will consider a $403,000 grant to Marin County Department of Parks and Open Space (Marin County) for improvements to the Miller Park Boat Launching Facility.  The proposed project includes construction of a new restroom, fish cleaning station and a retaining wall adjacent to the restroom.  The Boating and Waterways Commission has consented to grants totaling $1.23 million to Marin County for improvements to this facility.

$6.372 MILLION IN GRANTS AND LOANS FOR BOATING FACILITIES APPROVED

SACRAMENTO—The California Boating and Waterways Commission has approved $6.372 million in boating facility improvement grants and loans. 

The grants and loans awarded by the commission yesterday will go toward two Northern California boat launching facilities and one San Francisco Bay Area small craft harbor improvement project. The grant and loan recipients are:

Colusa Boat Launching Facility, Sacramento River  -- City of Colusa
The commission approved a $340,000 grant to fund a study that will determine the feasibility of moving forward with the construction of a new Colusa boat launching facility. The City of Colusa will use this grant  to identify the appropriate scope and estimated cost for the potential project.  The preliminary cost estimate for the entire project, which is not being considered at this time, is $2.4 million.

Knights Landing Boat Launching Facility, Sacramento River — Yolo County
The commission approved a $732,000 grant for improvements to the Knights Landing boat launching facility.  The proposed project includes widening the existing ramp to accommodate boarding floats; installing two new boarding floats; adding slope protection, electrical, lightning and a potable water system; and constructing sidewalks, a turnaround and restroom,  and a project and directional sign.

San Francisco Marina— San Francisco City/County 
The commission approved a $5.3 million loan to fund improvements to the San Francisco Marina’s West Harbor.  The commission also approved the transfer of  $500,000 in loan funds already approved in fiscal year 2006/2007 for the East Harbor to the West Harbor project.  The proposed improvement project consists of demolition of existing berths and construction of reconfigured berths in the West Harbor; upgrading of electrical and water dock utilities; installation of new barrier-free access gangways with security gates; construction of a new breakwater; replacement of revetment; mole removal; dredging; and improvement of buildings.  The Boating and Waterways Commission has consented to loans totaling $17 million to the City/County for the San Francisco Marina West Harbor project.  The total loan amount from the department to San Francisco Marina will be $25,650,000 and the total project cost will be $25,850,000.

BOATING AND WATERWAYS COMMISSION TO CONSIDER $6.372 MILLION FOR BOATING FACILITIES JUNE 12

SACRAMENTO--The California Boating and Waterways Commission will meet June 12 in Petaluma to consider $6.372 million in boating facility improvement grants and loans.

The meeting is open to the public and will convene at 8:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel , 745 Baywood Drive, in Petaluma.  Other topics of discussion will include the Department of Boating and Waterway’s boating safety, accidents and aquatic weed control programs. The proposed grant and loan recipients are:

Colusa Boat Launching Facility, Sacramento River  -- City of Colusa

$11.535 MILLION IN GRANTS AND LOANS FOR BOATING FACILITIES APPROVED

SACRAMENTO -The California Boating and Waterways Commission has approved $11.535 million in boating facility improvement grants and loans. The grants and loans awarded by the commission today will go toward five boat launching facilities and small craft harbor improvement projects. The grant and loan recipients are:

Buckhorn Boat Launch Facility, Black Butte Lake -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
The commission approved USACE request to combine funds from previously approved funding for the Eagle Pass and Buckhorn boat launching facilities to complete the Buckhorn boat launching facility (BLF). The Buckhorn BLF is the primary facility on Black Butte Lake, located in Tehama and Glenn counties. The project is anticipated to cost $1.8 million.

Ventura Harbor - Ventura County
The commission approved a phase-one grant of $450,000 to the Ventura Port District for improvements to the Ventura Harbor BLF. The project will demolish and redesign the existing concrete ramp, add an accessible boarding float and stabilize the shoreline. The total project cost is $4.5 million. Previously, the commission consented to grants totaling $1,089,000 for improvements at this location.

Santa Barbara Marina- Santa Barbara County 
The commission approved a phase-one loan of $720,000 to the City of Santa Barbara Waterfront Department to fund improvements to Marina One in the Santa Barbara Harbor. The total project cost is $6,700,000. Replacement of Marina One is needed due to the deteriorating condition and age of the dock system, which is over 30 years old. The commission previously consented to loans totaling $7,291,000 for improvements to Marina One between 1961 and 1985. The loans have been paid in full.

Santa Cruz Harbor - Santa Cruz County
The commission approved the initial loan funding of $1,365,000 to the Santa Cruz Port District for improvements and rehabilitation to the berthing facilities in the North Harbor of Santa Cruz Harbor. The district with its own forces has rebuilt 81 berths to date, but program funding is too slow and the docks are deteriorating faster than the district has dollars and the crew to replace them. The total project cost is $9.2 million. The commission previously consented to loans totaling $15,654,000 for improvements to the North Harbor between 1961 and 2001. The first four loans, totaling $6.2 million, haven been paid in full. The district is current on all other loans.

Dana Point Harbor Marina - Orange County
The commission approved a second phase loan of $9,000,000 to the County of Orange for improvements to the Dana Point Harbor Marina as part of a larger Dana Point Harbor Revitalization Project. The total project cost is $15,000,000. This loan covers the demolition and reconstruction of berths in the West Marina, installation of gangways, replacement of dock utilities, repairs to the bulkhead, and installation of gates, fencing, a security system and parking area improvements. The commission previously consented to loans totaling $15,500,000 to the County of Orange for the construction of and/or improvements to the Dana Point Harbor Marina.

BOATING AND WATERWAYS COMMISSION TO CONSIDER $11.535 MILLION FOR BOATING FACILITIES APRIL 25

SACRAMENTO--The California Boating and Waterways Commission will meet April 25 to consider $11.535 million in boating facility improvement grants and loans, discuss the abandoned watercraft program and the Wear It California campaign. The meeting is open to the public and will convene at 8:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Sacramento, 1209 L Street, Sacramento, California. The proposed grant and loan recipients are:

Buckhorn Boat Launch Facility, Black Butte Lake  -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)

$4.650 MILLION IN GRANTS AND LOANS FOR BOATING FACILITIES APPROVED

The grants and loans awarded by the commission this week will go toward four boat launch and small craft harbor improvement projects. A description of each project is attached.

Approved grant and loan recipients

Coyote Point - San Mateo County

The commission approved a grant of $146,000 to the County of San Mateo for improvements to the Coyote Point boat launching facility, formerly known as San Mateo Point. The proposed boat launch facility project includes construction of a new two-unit unisex restroom with utilities to be located approximately 110' from the launch ramp. The restroom will replace the portable chemical toilet currently being used. Previously, the commission consented to grants totaling $575,000 for improvements to this facility.

McClure Point- Mariposa County

The commission approved a phase-one grant of $136,000 to the Merced Irrigation District for new construction of a boat launching facility at McClure Point on Lake McClure. The total project cost is expected to be $2.4 million. The proposed project entails construction of a new two-lane boat launching ramp. A boarding float will be installed adjacent to the ramp and slope protection will be added to the sides of the ramp and a parking area will be constructed with sidewalks, curbs and lightning. A restroom and associated utilities will be installed, as well as a project credit sign.

Coyote Point Marina - San Mateo County

The commission approved a first phase marina loan of $218,000 to the County of San Mateo for improvements to the Coyote Point Marina. The total project cost is $1,829,000. Funds would be used to replace Dock 29 at the northeastern end of the Coyote Point Marina. The dock, originally built in the early 1970s, has deteriorated over time leaving it unable to withstand the wind and tide cycles of the San Francisco Bay. The commission, between 1973 and 1996, consented to loans totaling $3,450,000 for improvements to the Coyote Point Marina.

Sacramento Marina - City of Sacramento

The commission approved a final phase loan of $1,475,000 to the City of Sacramento for improvements to the South Basin of the Sacramento Marina. The total project cost is $9 million. The South Basin project entails: 1) demolition of existing berths (except 30 existing concrete berths which will be extended) and construction of a reconfigured system containing 171 slips, 2) berth covers, including a portion of the north basin, 3) installation of gangways, 4) replacement of dock utilities, 5) upgrading of shore electric, 6) dredging, 7) construction of a new restroom, 8) construction of a dock connector between the two basins, 9) installation of three fuel dispensers, 10) installation of a fire sprinkler system, and 11) addition of a security system.

SACRAMENTO--The California Boating and Waterways Commission will meet February 21 to consider $4.654 million in boating facility improvement grants and loans, discuss copper anti-fouling paint and the department's media campaigns.
