Volunteering

Volunteer

Do you enjoy nature and being outdoors? Do you want to share knowledge with others and promote conservation and stewardship? This is your opportunity to join our team of dedicated volunteers who rove the trails, interact with visitors, host at the visitor center and in general contribute to the inspiration, education and enjoyment of park visitors. Mountain Parks Foundation (a nonprofit cooperating association supporting the park) depends on volunteers to help as:

  • Docents: Learn about the magnificent old-growth redwoods and Big Basin’s wonderful cultural history, then share your knowledge with the public. Call (831) 338-8883 for more information or a volunteer application.
  • Camp Hosts: Help visitors while living in the park. For information visit the Campground and Park Hosts page.
  • Wilderness Patrol:  Hike or mountain bike into scenic backcountry along the famous Skyline to the Sea Trail. For more information, contact the program coordinator Jeremy Lin at (831) 427-2288 or email rdopis@parks.ca.gov
  • Join our Trail Crew! http://www.bbvtc.org/
For more information and to sign up, call the Mountain Parks Foundation office at (831) 335-3174 or email us at redwoods@mountainparks.org. For information about volunteering at other state parks in the Santa Cruz district, call the district office at (831) 335-6391 or email volunteer.inparksprogram@parks.ca.gov

Get Involved

Visit the park. If you’ll be coming to Big Basin Redwoods State Park or other California state parks frequently, buy a state parks pass—an excellent way to save money and support state parks.

Support nonprofit groups working on behalf of this park, including Mountain Parks Foundation, Friends of Santa Cruz State Parks, and Save the Redwoods League. On the League’s website, you can learn about other ways to get involved in redwoods protection—including taking a pledge, entering a photo contest, or becoming a citizen scientist.
