Friends4Picacho (F4P) was formed in 2012 as an organization to support Picacho State Recreation Area. The mission of F4P is to preserve the land, wildlife, and cultural history of the park for future generations to appreciate and enjoy. Picacho SRA lies on a 9 mile stretch of the lower Colorado River in the southeast corner of California.

This remote park is part of the Colorado Desert District and includes 54 campsites, 3 boat launches, and 5 river camps. Favorite activities at the park include hiking, boating, fishing, stargazing, and bird and wildlife viewing. The mining town of Picacho sat on this spot in the early 1900's. The remains of a stamp mill that was used to crush the ore during mining operations is a popular hiking destination.

The Friends assist park staff in coordinating a successful volunteer program through California State Parks Foundations Park Champions Program. These popular work weekends have made it possible to remove vast amounts of non-native vegetation in the park, build fences, paint, and upgrade campsites. The PicachoSRA Earth Day is also a popular annual event that has improved the main campground. Volunteer projects have included building shade ramadas, planting native trees, and performing trail maintenance. F4P also supports educational and interpretive activities to enhance the visitor experience at the park. We also attend local and regional community festivals to promote and generate interest in PicachoSRA and all it has to offer.

Friends4Picacho is an official Cooperating Association with California State Parks, and a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. The funding for activities and interpretive programs comes from donations as well as from the sale of merchandise at the park store. 100% of all proceeds go back into the park. Help F4P help Picacho SRA through your tax free donation. For more information, or to become a supporter, please visit our website at www.Friends4Picacho.org
