Rocky Intertidal Long-term Monitoring Program

long-term monitoring program imageCalifornia State Parks Mendocino has established a long-term monitoring program at MacKerricher State Park, where teachers can bring students to collect data regarding species composition in tide pools. Over time, this data will show how global climate change is effecting our area of the California coast and can be compared with data collected at other locations along the west coast.

Students prepare in the classroom by learning about sampling techniques, animal and algae identification and proper data collecting. Once in the field, these citizen scientists will identify and document all species within a certain area. All materials including classroom preparation are provided.
