CALIFORNIA STATE PARK AND RECREATION COMMISSION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the California State Park and Recreation Commission, pursuant to authority contained in Sections 535.5, 539, 5002.3, 5019.50, 5080.03, 5080.20, et al. of Public Resources Code, Sec 11120 et seq. of Government Code, and other applicable law, will meet on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. in the Forest Conference Center of the Hilton Santa Cruz/Scotts Valley, 6001 La Madrona Dr., in Santa Cruz, California. The meeting facility is wheelchair accessible.
Agenda items include consideration and possible action on the following Department of Parks and Recreation recommendations: Approval of the General Plan/Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for Big Basin Redwoods State Park, and approval of the proposal for a boundary amendment to add 390 acres to the West Waddell Creek State Wilderness in Big Basin Redwoods State Park. The agenda will also include a discussion of the “Parks Forward” initiative, a District presentation on deferred maintenance projects, discussion and possible action related to Public Resources Code Section 535.5 (a), Presentations, discussion, and possible action related to other duties of the Commission described in California Public Resources Code Section 535.5 (b) through (e), a Presentation on the report, Beyond Crisis: Recapturing Excellence in California’s State Park System, by Little Hoover Commission staff, a Presentation by members of the California Parks Hospitality Association on this organization and its partnership with California State Parks, and a Report of the Commission Nominating Committee and election of Commission chair and vice chair.
The agenda will also include a closed session to discuss pending and/or potential litigation, pursuant to the authority of Government Code Section 11126, subdivisions (e)(2)(A) and (e)(2)(B)(i). People of the State of California, ex rel. Attorney General Bill Lockyer and State Park and Recreation Commission v. Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency, a joint powers authority; Board of Directors of the Foothill/Eastern Transportation Corridor Agency (San Diego Superior Court Case No. GIN 051371). The closed session will not be open to the public.

NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the Commission will take part in a briefing on the general plan for Big Basin Redwoods State Park on Thursday, May 16th, 2013. The briefing will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Welcome/Map Panel adjacent to the main parking lot at Big Basin Redwoods State Park headquarters, 21600 Big Basin Way, in Boulder Creek. Members of the public wishing to attend the briefing should provide their own high-clearance or 4-wheel-drive vehicle suitable for off-road use, though a few seats in state vehicles may be available on a first-come, first-served basis. No deliberations will take place and no action will be taken by the Commission during the briefing.
