Camp Host

Job Description, Application, and Camp Site Picture

Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park is currently seeking camp hosts for summer 2023. Duties for this position include checking in campers, collecting appropriate camping fees, assisting campers with their needs, selling firewood; light housekeeping of the restrooms and campsites; collecting and counting coin operated shower money; assisting in the museum when needed or assisting the park maintenance staff with projects; and notifying the appropriate people of emergencies.

Host SiteThe park sits in the Sierra foothills 12 miles east of Jackson, CA in the town of Pine Grove, CA. Nestled in amongst pines, oaks and cedar trees, the campground is off the beaten path while still accessible from bigger attractions nearby. The campground has 23 campsites (including the camp host site) that accommodate up to a 27 foot RV or two to three tents per site; the camp host site can accommodate a 32 foot RV. While not heavily visited throughout the week, the weekends can be busy.

The park is at an elevation of 2400 feet so it still gets some of the Sacramento-San Joaquin Valley heat. Summer days can be up to 95 degrees, or warmer, while the nights dip down to a cool 65 to 70 degrees. August is typically the hottest month at the park and by the end of September the temperatures are very nice.

This position is a volunteer position. In exchange for your service, we provide a campsite capable of accommodating a 32 foot RV, water, garbage, sewage and electricity. There is a phone line at the camp site if you wish to pay to connect it and incur the monthly bill. A criminal background investigation is required since you will be working with money and may be working with children. A small fee (approximately $15.00-$20.00) for Live Scan fingerprinting service will be incurred on your part during the background investigation.

The position will start as soon as you clear the background check. Couples are encouraged to apply; however, a separate application from each person will be required.
