This Land is Our Land - Asilomar State Beach & Conference Grounds celebrates National Parks with Pacific Grove Public Library

2016 marks the second year of Asilomar State Beach & Conference Grounds collaboration with Pacific Grove Public Library's annual 'Friends' fine art exhibit, along with special tours, lectures and activities celebrating John Muir and the National Park Service centennial year.

Asilomar State Park staff will host 3 monthly environmental protection-focused Nature Walks on October 8, November 5, and December 3 at 10:00 a.m. Walks include readings from the works of John Muir.

Meet at the Flag Pole north of the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Social Hall; comfortable shoes and layers are recommended for this easy stroll through the beautiful Asilomar Conference Grounds. Tours are free, last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. No reservations needed. More information: 831-646-6443.


In December, Asilomar will also host famed actor, Lee Stetson, portraying John Muir in two presentations:

Saturday, December 17 - Bundle up and Bring the Kids!! An early evening presentation by the Asilomar Bonfire: John Muir Among the Animals. A FREE, outdoor family friendly event. 5-6 p.m.

Sunday, December 18 - Asilomar and Friends of the Pacific Grove Library present "The Spirit of John Muir" - a fun romp through some of the very best of Muir's grand, thrilling adventures in his beloved western wilnderness. 2:00 pm. at the Grace Dodge Chapel Auditorium. Cost is $15 with advanced registration; $20.00 at the door.

Asilomar State Beach Hosts First Day Hike - January 1, 2017

OnSunday, January1,2017, Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds is participating in the National “First Day Hikes” Initiative by inviting local residents and visitors to join hikers from around the country to kick-start their new year in a healthy way! This signature event for America’s State Parks is an opportunity for participants to visit their local state parks to connect to nature for recreational opportunities, and to foster a healthy, outdoor lifestyle.

 WHAT:            The public is invited to start the New Year in a California State Park with a First Day Hike atAsilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds.Led by State Park Staff, Asilomar First Day Hikers will explore the panoramic Natural Dunes Preserve Boardwalk Trail, and finish their hike at the beautiful Asilomar State Beach Coast Trail. Enjoy amazing scenic views, bracing salt air, and abundant dunes flora and fauna, and seashore wildlife in these spectacular areas of the Asilomar State Beach State Park Unit.

 WHEN:            January 1, 2017 beginning at 1:00 PM          

 WHERE:         Meet State Park staff at the U.S. Flagpole, north of the Phoebe Apperson Hearst Social Hall, located in the Asilomar Conference Grounds, 800 Asilomar Blvd., in Pacific Grove. Plan on wearing layered clothing and comfortable shoes. Bring your own water and binoculars if desired. Children must be accompanied by Parent/Guardian adults, and be able to walk or ride in strollers along varying terrain, an approximately 2-mile trail length.

 WHY:              California State Parks are joining the National First Day Hikes’ program for the fifth year, inviting visitors to enjoy guided hikes on New Year’s Day. All 50 states participate and more than 90,000 hikers took to the trails in 2016.

Asilomar State Beach and Conference Grounds Park Events - Tours

Asilomar State Park staff lead regularly scheduled tours for visitors and conference guests alike. The Asilomar Ramble, our most popular tour, is currently scheduled on select Fridays and Saturdays in November, 2016.

Planning a Special Event or Function at Asilomar

Special events and functions at Asilomar include but are not limited to: weddings, formal gatherings, catering, vending, and organized group activities. Wherever you want your event to take place - on the conference grounds or on the beach -  Aramark, the hospitality concessionaire at Asilomar under contract with California State Parks - provides the facility, reservations and services for these events.
