Visit of Cyrille Pierre-Theodore Laplace to Fort Ross. Translated and Annotated by Glenn Farris, Retired Senior State Archaeologist

Published by the Fort Ross Interpretive Association

The Fort Ross Interpretive Association (FRIA), the cooperating association for Fort Ross State Historical Park, published a book in 2006 titled, “Visit of Cyrille Pierre-Theodore Laplace to Fort Ross and Bodega Bay in August 1839.”

This account of a French naval captain to the California coast was translated and annotated by Retired Senior State Archaeologist Glenn Farris, who worked for the Archaeology, History and Museums Division of California State Parks.

The book provides a valuable first-hand account of life in the Russian settlements of Fort Ross and Bodega Bay as well as several outlying Russian ranchos near the end of the Russian occupation in California.

Proceeds of sales benefit Fort Ross State Historic Park.
